DENMEAD VILLAGE ASSOCIATION

The village of Denmead is situated in the South of England, about half way between Portsmouth and the range of hills called the South Downs. The area where the village lies used to be called the Forest of Bere, an ancient hunting ground. Now it is mainly farmland, although there are still large areas of woodland remaining.

The Association was formed as a result of the concern of the village inhabitants about uncontrolled urbanisation being forced upon the village during the 1970's.

The object of this association is to
• a) represent public interest in planning, architecture, preservation of green and built areas and other environmental and historical matters within the parish of Denmead;
• b) liaise with appropriate statutory authorities in order to maintain Denmead's village identity;
• c) defend the 'Denmead Gap'.
